Daft Punk, the French duo–Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter–is considered one of the most successful electronic music collaborations of all time, both in album sales and critical acclaim. After Daft Punk reached significant popularity in the late 1990s house movement in France, other artists such as Air, Cassius, and Dimitri began to receive a similar attention.
Daft Punk's hits include 'Da Funk', 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger', 'Technologic' and 'One More Time', which was a major club hit, creating a new generation of fans mainly familiar with the second Daft Punk release.
Electroma, a film written by Daft Punk duo and 3 others, was first shown on May 21, 2006 as part of the Cannes Film Festival sidebar Director's Fortnight. Fans will be able to watch the full movie at Lycos Cinema prior to US DVD release. Vice Records has set the release date on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc for July 22, 2008 for the region.
Daft Punk made some media/commercial appearances, too. The duo appeared with Juliette Lewis in a commercial for The Gap. Recently, Daft Punk's discography appeared on an Apple's iPhone ad in which the person using the iPhone selects Discovery and purchases "Aerodynamic" from the iTunes Store.
Daft Punk is also credited with producing songs that are considered essential to the French house scene.
