Reviews I've Written

Julie & Jack - reviewed on Dec 30, 2007

a movie obviously done on the cheap, but worth staying with. the most amazing plot twist about half an hour in, which is unexpected but which gives the movie depth. the acting ability of Jenn Gotzon as Julie stands head and shoulders above everybody else's in this movie. well worth a viewing.

The Ritual - reviewed on Dec 29, 2007

load of superstitious mumbo jumbo a bit daft nice celtic new age soundtrack formulaic thriller

Because Why - reviewed on Dec 28, 2007

Superb. I think you have to like this kind of style to enjoy it - the movie is spacious, allowing for lots of pauses and thinking. You really have to be patient with it, but it definitely rewards that patience. In many places the movie just seems random and slow, but life is like that after all. I loved this movie.

Zone 39 - reviewed on Dec 28, 2007

Swaggering Aussie machismo. Movie a bit rickety at times. I think Hollywood could do better with it (& that's saying something!). It's well worth watching however, has many memorable scenes, the main character (Megaw) is sympathetic. The plot is built around an interesting pretext. I enjoyed it, despite its obvious faults.

Dogwalker - reviewed on Dec 28, 2007

Racist, sexist, filled with stereotypes - only the character of Jerry & the dog have any depth. Having said that, it's laugh-out-loud funny in some places. The character of Jerry is well-played, and actually sympathetic.
